Familias Unidas in Action

Math 2023
Numbers are All Around Us

Our families dived into the theme "Numbers are all Around Us." They spent quality time together, noticing the abundance of numbers in their homes and neighborhoods. This hands-on experience really highlighted the everyday importance of math and the joy of learning it.

Math 2023
Numbers that Define Us

Our Families embarked on a captivating project called "Numbers that Define Us." Families worked together, choosing thought-provoking questions and expressing their answers numerically using various methods like 10 frames, pictures, and good old addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division equations. It was incredible to witness the families' creativity as they explored the numbers that truly represent their unique identities.

Learning through Play

Another highlight was our focus on "Learning through Play." Our families discovered the incredible benefits of incorporating play into their math learning journey. After getting a solid grasp on number sense, they engaged in math games that not only honed their skills but also created memorable moments for family bonding. These games not only nurtured their mathematical abilities but also provided an outlet for emotional growth and stress relief. Additionally, families explored the practical side of math by creating patterns, making connections, using manipulatives, and practicing math concepts together. They even collaborated on creating number books to enhance counting skills and develop a deeper understanding of numbers. And let's not forget the fun of skip counting and searching for patterns on 100 and 120 charts!

Math 2023
Arrays

During this session, we also introduced families to the concept of arrays, helping them make connections between math and the real world in their homes and neighborhoods. And as an extra treat, we offered a special class on accessing iReady, an online reading and math program, from the comfort of their own homes. We stressed the importance of dedicating time to use iReady and continue sharpening their skills.

Math 2023
Solving Word Problems

In our "Math Book" session, we equipped our families with effective strategies for solving math word problems with ease. To solidify their learning, families created a word problem math book, which will undoubtedly come in handy during their state testing. We also provided parents with insights on how they can support their students at home in preparing for the annual State Tests (CAASPP).

Math 2023
Place Value

We explored the concept of place value. Families learned just how crucial this mathematical concept is, and they put their newfound knowledge into practice by creating eye-catching posters and playing more math games.

Math 2023
Time and Elapsed Time

Our families learned about the concept of time! Our families delved into the world of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years, understanding the fascinating relationship between them all.
